IRCC issues 4,300 ITAs in latest Express Entry draw

IRCC issues 4,300 ITAs in latest Express Entry draw

The fifteenth Express Entry draw of 2023 has recently been conducted by the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), marking yet another significant step in the immigration process.

During this latest draw, a total of 4,300 candidates were extended invitations to apply through the all-program category. The selection process involved a thorough evaluation of various factors, with candidates being required to achieve a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 486 in order to be eligible for consideration.

This achievement reflects the continuous efforts of IRCC to streamline and facilitate the immigration process, while ensuring that highly qualified candidates are granted the opportunity to contribute their skills and expertise to the Canadian workforce and society. The meticulous selection criteria underscore the commitment of IRCC to attract individuals who possess the necessary qualities to thrive and prosper in Canada, further enriching the country's diverse and vibrant communities.

The month of June has seen two Express Entry draws, with the most recent one taking place on June 8. Similar to the previous draw, this event also welcomed a substantial number of candidates, with 4,800 individuals being invited to apply through the all-program category. Meeting the minimum CRS cut-off score of 486 remained a prerequisite for consideration in both draws, ensuring that candidates possessed the necessary qualifications and attributes.

82 occupations now eligible for category-based selection

Exciting developments have also unfolded in terms of category-based selection. In a recent announcement on May 31, IRCC revealed plans to introduce six new categories for Express Entry candidates later in the summer. These categories encompass various fields, including healthcare, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions, trades such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors, transportation, agriculture, agri-food, and individuals with strong French-speaking abilities. Candidates with relevant work or language experience in these selected occupations will have the opportunity to receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through the newly implemented draws.

The category-based selection system focuses on prioritizing certain occupations, with healthcare professions comprising nearly half of the eligible occupations. Additionally, STEM occupations play a significant role in this framework. It is important to note that Express Entry candidates must already be part of the pool and possess work experience in the listed occupations to be considered for an ITA. While a high CRS score remains a vital factor, individuals with the highest scores continue to have a greater likelihood of receiving an ITA.

IRCC's decision to implement these categories stems from extensive consultations with provinces, territories, and other stakeholders. The results of the draws, along with their effectiveness, will be included in the annual report to parliament. It is worth mentioning that categories may undergo changes on a yearly basis, reflecting the dynamic nature of the immigration system.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry serves as a comprehensive application management system that oversees three prominent economic immigration programs in Canada: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. Eligible individuals are required to create a profile with IRCC, which is then evaluated using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS considers various factors, including work experience, language proficiency, education, occupation, age, and other human capital indicators. Candidates with higher CRS scores have a higher probability of receiving an ITA in upcoming draws.

Following the issuance of an ITA, candidates must submit their final application for permanent residency to IRCC within 60 days. Skilled immigration officers will then review the application and make a decision on granting the candidate permanent residency status in Canada.
